Instructions for making homemade suppositories
Ingredients
Fat base (vegan option):
-
75–80% cocoa butter
-
up to 20% coconut or shea butter
Fat base (non-vegan option):
-
pharmaceutical-grade hardened fat (Adeps solidus)
Cannabis extract (e.g. resin or RSO)
Optional: essential oils or herbal extracts suitable for rectal use
Suppository molds (recommended volume: 1 ml for children, 2 ml for adults)
Method
1. Calculate the required amount
Based on your mold size, prepare the correct amount of extract and fat base.
Example: For 10 suppositories with a volume of 2 ml each and containing 0.25 ml extract per suppository, you’ll need:
-
2.5 ml extract
-
17.5 ml fat base
2. Melt the fat base
Gently melt your chosen fat base over low heat or in a water bath.
-
Vegan option: cocoa butter with a small amount of coconut or shea butter
-
Non-vegan option: pharmaceutical hardened fat
⚠️ A higher proportion of coconut or shea butter may cause the suppositories to soften or melt at room temperature – use sparingly.
3. Add the extract
If using cannabis resin, pre-warm it in a glass jar placed in hot water – this makes mixing easier. Stir thoroughly into the melted fat until evenly combined.
4. Fill the molds
Place the molds on a flat, stable surface. Using a syringe or measuring cup, fill each cavity with the extract mixture.
5. Let them solidify and store in a cool place
Allow the suppositories to harden in the refrigerator. Then seal the molds (e.g. with the included sealing strip) and keep them stored in a cool place.
Before use, take them out of the fridge briefly to soften slightly for easier insertion – but be careful not to let them melt in your hand.
Tip:
For precise dosing, you can use a syringe with measurement markings. The ideal mold volume is 2 ml for adults.
